Northern Power House Rail Network and the effects on Cheshire
The budget published this week included a £37 million boost for Northern Power House Rail. This is to develop additional rail services throughout the North and is being referred to as the cross rail of the North.

Within the Chancellor’s budget released this week was a pledge of £60 million towards Woodland Carbon Guarantee Schemes and to support the planting of 10 million trees. This is in addition to the funding available for tree planting in urban areas.
The Government Announces another Round of the Countryside Productivity Small Grant Scheme
Following the success of the last round of the Countryside Small Productivity Grant Scheme Michael Gove has announced another round will open in early 2019. Rostons, as Land Agents in Cheshire helped a number of Clients to successfully apply for the grant in the last round and will look to help more this time.
HS2 Phase 2B Update
The HS2 Phase 2B working draft Environmental Statement has been published today (11th October 2018). The Environmental Statement is a substantial assessment of the impact of the proposed scheme which has to be submitted as part of the Hybrid Bill. The draft Environmental Statement details the loss of residential/commercial property, damage to protective species and habitats, impact of noise and visual impact and the affect on farm businesses.
BPS Derogation to help farmers after the hot and dry conditions of Summer 2018
DEFRA have announced a derogation for Ecological Focus Areas to help with the shortage of fodder and grazing. This will be in place by the 30th September 2018 to help those with Countryside Stewardship or Environmental Stewardship agreements.
