NFU Cymru Conference

Hywel Davies from Rostons attended the NFU Cymru conference this week at Llandrindod Wells. The Conference title was ‘Welsh Farming: Ambition for Growth’.

The day was filled with excellent speakers with differing opinions on the future of agriculture in Wales and the United Kingdom and how the rural sector should embrace Brexit. Speakers included the Cabinet Secretary for Rural Affairs, Lesley Griffiths, Head of Economics at HSBC, Mark Berrisford-Smith and the former Diplomat and U.K Ambassador to NATO Sir Emyr Parry Jones.

The afternoon session saw a united summary of the future of farming by the presidents of the NFU, NFU Cymru, NFU Scotland and the Ulster Farmers’ Union. Minette Batters highlighted the contribution farmers make to the landscape however their main purpose is food production not National Park managers.

Hywel Davies said “It was another very successful conference, with fantastic speakers that had a depth of knowledge on the importance of international trade and Brexit. The recent Welsh Government consultation saw over 12,000 responses, and I hope that the Welsh Government will take note of the importance of farmers within the Rural sector”.

For those who are Welsh speaking, tune into Radio Cymru on Saturday morning at 6:00am for the ‘Byd Amaeth’ programme where Hywel will be discussing the conference and the future for Agriculture in Wales.
