The Welsh Government has recently launched a new grant scheme that will see 150 young farmers under the age of 40 receiving £40,000 each. The deadline for the online Expression of Interest is the 12th June 2018.
Hywel Davies, Chartered Surveyor at Rostons comments that “the grant is aimed at young individuals who are high achieving and are either currently head of holding or who have started as head of holding since 1st April 2017.”
The requirements for the grant will be measured through KPI’s (Key Performance Indicators) and will consider the following:
- Type of business structure (Sole Trader, Partnership etc)
- System being operated
- Academic Qualifications
- CPD (Continued Professional Development)
- Additional Activities that are undertaken
- Future Business Plan
All indicators have been given different points, and the top 150 to score the highest number of points will then be offered the grant.
The money will be paid in three separate instalments up until 31st March 2020. The money can be used for any purpose within the business, as working capital to facilitate the farm, funding for running costs of the holding or purchasing assets.
Hywel Davies also comments that “This is a very useful grant available to young farmers who want to develop their businesses in Wales and to invest in their future systems and holdings. It is good to see the Welsh Government rewarding those young farmers who strive to develop within the industry”.
