It has been proposed that the second reading of the HS2 Phase 2A Hybrid Bill will be read on the 30th January 2018.
The second reading of the Bill will be debated by MP’s and will include the need for the proposed scheme. The second reading will confirm the principle of the proposed Bill and as a result, will open petitioning.
Petitioning is a request to the House of Commons to be allowed to argue a case before the select committee and it is a summary of objections to particular aspects of the Bill. It is not however, to question the principle of the Bill.
The Parliament has recently updated the petitioning procedure to make it simpler and easier to be undertaken and those who submit a petition will be heard by the select committee. It is likely to be undertaken in mid to late March 2018. Rostons are representing a number of Land owners and occupiers affected by the scheme and will be submitting petitions on their behalf.
If you would like to discuss this in more detail, please do not hesitate to contact Tom Selby at Rostons on 01829 773000.
