Remember to Register your Waste Exemptions

The deadline to register your Agricultural Waste Exemptions with the Environment Agency is fast approaching.

New regulations introduced on 6 April 2010 changed the system of waste exemptions. Farm-based exemptions registered before 6 April 2010 will expire on 30 September 2013. By this date, you will need to have registered for a new exemption.

Most activities involving the storage, recycling and disposal of farm wastes can be registered as exempt from the need to have an environmental permit. There are approximately 60 waste exemptions although not all are relevant to farmers.

Some examples of agricultural waste are:

  • empty pesticide containers
  • old silage wrap
  • out of date medicines and wormers
  • used tyres
  • surplus milk

Rostons are currently completing many Waste Exemptions on behalf of their clients. If you would like any assistance please contact Carys Williams on 01829773000. Rostons will also be on hand to complete the application at the Cheshire Ploughing Match on 25th September 2013.

Don’t worry if you miss the deadline they can still be registered after the 1st October 2013.
