In a recent Westminster Policy Forum, the Northern Powerhouse Rail (NPR) Director, Tim Wood announced that work on Northern Powerhouse Rail routes could start by the mid-2020s and will form a key part of a northern infrastructure pipeline.
Mr Wood believes that they will have spades in the ground this decade, with preferred routes and phasing expected to be presented to Transport for the North’s board later this year.
With HS2 expected to release an update this Autumn, consulting on new changes and modifications to the route, as well as presentations being made it is likely that we will see the first stages of NPR being integrated to the HS2 line in the North West.
Jonathan Bell of Rostons believes that those who own and occupy land and property in the M62 corridor towards Liverpool should be prepared for the impacts of Northern Powerhouse Rail and associated infrastructure, particularly as Prime Minister Boris Johnson seeks to boost the economy with large, national infrastructure projects.
The plan below outlines the potential new routes.
