HS2 Phase 2A Update – Further consultations are announced

HS2 has launched two consultations as part of preparations for phase 2A.

The consultations that have opened are the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) and Equality Impact Assessment (EQIA). Both consultations will look to seek the views of statutory and expert bodies on the scope, methodology and overall reporting of the EIA and EQIA.

The findings from the consultations will accompany the depositing of the hybrid bill in 2017.

The EIA topics that will be consulted on include:

· Agriculture, forestry and soils

· Air quality

· Climate

· Ecology

· Health

· Sound, noise and vibration

Some ecology surveys could be up to 10 kilometres from the route.

The EQIA will identify any particular equality groups that maybe affected and action that maybe necessary to limit such effects should they arise.

Tom Selby of Rostons stated “A number of people are still asking if Phase 2A will still go ahead, the preparation that is going in to these consultations shows that Phase 2A will be the largest infrastructure project in to the North West since the M6. Anyone approached by HS2 representatives should seek professional advice”.
