One of the key questions emerging from the CAP reform political agreement back in June is how entitlements will be dealt with moving into the new scheme.
Although a final decision as to how these entitlements will be allocated in the new scheme will not be made for a few more months, many commentators are saying that in England, entitlements will roll forward. It has already been confirmed that there will be a new allocation of entitlements in Wales.
If entitlements are rolled forward, this will be implemented from the 1st January 2015. Basically, the entitlements you have as at 31st December 2014 will be rolled forward overnight into the new scheme. However, any entitlements that are not activated against eligible hectares in the May 2015 claim will evaporate.
