£40m Small Grant Scheme For Farmers Announced

It has been announced by the Welsh Government that a £40m scheme will be available to farmers to help them reduce their carbon emissions and to improve their resilience and competitiveness.

Carys Studley of Rostons comments that “on Friday 6th January that Environment and Rural Affairs Lesley Griffiths announced a small capital grant scheme in line with the new commitment to take Wales forward.”

The scheme which is part-funded by the Welsh Government Rural Development Programme has been announced to be part of the 2017/18 budget.

The grant will provide 40% grant rate for up to a maximum of £12,000 over a 4 year period.

Whilst no specific details are available yet, it is suggested that around 80 items are available for investment which are linked to:

  • Animal health, genetics and performance
  • Crop management
  • Energy efficiency
  • Resource efficient
  • ICT
